The Croydon community centre combines two units into one, yet still keeping the units separate with the help of a fire-rated glazed screen. Both will be equipped with a storage lined wall that will allow the space to have a multi functional use.
Existing WCs will be moved further back and made into accessible unisex WCs, allowing for a larger main gather space. A small meeting room will created near the back. Access between the units is through a pivoting door.
The refurbishment will include features that will minimise running costs and provide an attractive place for gathering. A vision for a more sustainable built environment includes:
• secure bicycle parking
• energy efficient lighting solutions
• motion detection lighting
• efficient Heating Ventilation and Air condition solution
• low flowing water fixtures
• no touch fixtures
• improved envelope where applicable
• design for natural ventilation, where allowable
• maximising indoor air quality
• the use of sustainable building materials
• managing demolition to recycle waste products
